Other Divisions and CentersKoyu-Kai (Alumni Organizations)Koyu-Kai was formed as an alumni organization of Kagawa Education Institute of Nutrition in 1941. Many of our graduates have taken active roles in the field of Nutrition in Japan and contributed on improving the health of this country through promotion of well-balanced diet. Today, the organization has over 40,000 members and its 37 regional groups spread across Japan from Hokkaido to Okinawa. The nest of Koyu-Kai, the Koyu-Kai House, is located near the Sakado campus. It was completed in 2000. The building houses the main office, seminar rooms, professional-standard kitchen, and a Japanese-style room, which can be used for tea ceremonies. These facilities are utilised by the alumni members and staff and students of the University for various purposes including gatherings and seminars. Koyu-Kai organises events and seminars for the general public. The seminars usually have a food/nutrition related theme and invited speakers, many of whom are our graduates or staff, give talks and demonstrations. Our activities also involve promoting rice that has embryo still intact after polishing process. Such sort of rice is still relatively unknown but it is a very good source of vitamin B1, which tends to be lacking in Japanese diet. This has a strong link to the founding philosophy of the University as the founders were physicians who worked on a research that evidently showed eating embryo-intact rice improves conditions of beriberi patients. We release newsletter annually to inform the members about the groups’ latest activities and developments. |
